A suggestion from Gil Strachan, Trenton, ON:
A month and-a-half has gone by, and two and-a-half to go, until hopefully the intervention of a relief well... which might or might not actually intersect the leaker. Then what? At 5000 psi on a 21" pipe, and no drop in flow since April 10th, I'm inclined to think there's a shitload of oil down there... seriously. How do you cap that? It might be like trying to cap a volcano.
Latest estimates are almost 20,000 barrels a day. Fucking "barrels." Multiply by 40. That's about 800,000 gallons a day. Almost a million gallons a day.
800,000 gallons X about a hundred days, if we're lucky. That's about 80 million gallons. If we're lucky.
I guess we always say, "What the heck, they dumped 900 million gallons in the Persian Gulf during the first Gulf War." The big difference was, it was all on surface. This shit is coming up from a mile underwater, from a well that's another 5 miles deep - and the pricks have been socking the toxic dispersants to it, so that it would sink and make the slick look smaller. Great. Now the shit can smother the ocean floor forever.
What are the odds that anything will ever grow or live in the Gulf of Mexico, ever again?
Pretty poor, I'd say.
Gil, I am agreeing with you!
This map brings things closer to Canada! It is a representation of what the Gulf spill would look like here. Remember, the oil continues to gush out so this picture would only increase in size!
Does this spill affect wildlife? Have a look and you tell me.....
What would be a fitting punishment?
And what is going to happen to oil prices because of this? Does it make sense that we pay for someone else's actions that caused such a disaster? Truth is that we will, becuase the company won't and those in control of the company won't. Don't ya just love our western politics and thought processes!

This is interesting...
Would it not be criminal if the spill could have been minimized!

I watched an interview last week with a former CEO of Shell Oil and he mentioned that in the 1990's, there was a massive oil spill off the coast of Saudi Arabia that never hit the news. The Saudis dispatched 5 supertankers which sucked up all the oil and seawater and then when the oil and water were separated, the water was siphoned off back in to the sea. The mess was cleaned up and was a non-issue.
When asked why BP was not doing that in this situation, the former CEO could only speculate. He stated that these supertankers are making so much money shipping oil that taking them out of service to do a clean up would cost BP huge amounts of money.
BP has not been making any attempts to plug the leak. Their main focus is to contain the spill and recover what they can. The environment and the livelihoods of the local people that rely on the Gulf of Mexico seem to be the last of their concerns. They must ensure their shareholders are paid their dividends.
This just keeps on getting worse.....check out these projections!!
